In a shocking case from Varun Arjun Medical College, Banthra (Shahjahanpur), a total of 96 final-year MBBS students were deliberately failed in their General Medicine practical exams. Following the complaints filed by affected students, MJP Rohilkhand University launched an investigation and found the college administration and faculty responsible.

Inquiry Reveals Malpractice by Faculty

Out of 141 students, 96 were marked as failed in the same subject. Suspecting foul play, the students raised objections and submitted complaints to the university. Responding swiftly, Vice-Chancellor Prof. K.P. Singh appointed an inquiry committee to probe the matter.

The investigation concluded that internal examiners acted with personal bias. The committee also found that the college administration ignored student complaints and allowed the same faculty member to upload marks.

Strict Action by University

Acting on the findings, the university took strict disciplinary actions:

  • Dr. Dhankar Thakur, Head of Department, was terminated.
  • Dr. Vivek Kumar Verma, the internal examiner, was suspended.
  • The college was fined ₹10,000 per student, holding the institution accountable.
  • No additional exam fees will be charged from the students.

Re-examination to Be Conducted

Rohilkhand University has announced that students will be given another opportunity to appear for the General Medicine practicals. The re-examination will be conducted under the supervision of Prof. Alok Srivastava and Dr. Abha Trivedi. All expenses will be borne by the college through a demand draft submitted to the university.

A Step Toward Transparency in Medical Education

This case underscores the need for transparency in medical education and the importance of a system that listens to student grievances. The university’s proactive stance sets a strong precedent to prevent such academic misconduct in the future.
